When a pond has built-up sludge, heavy debris, excess algae or neglected filtration, routine maintenance may not be enough. A full pond clean and restoration gives the whole system the attention it needs, from the pond floor and waterfall to the filter bay, UV unit and pipework.

MS Koi provides complete pond cleaning services for ornamental ponds, koi ponds and larger specialist systems across Surrey and surrounding areas. We plan the work around your pond, fish stock, filtration and access, with careful handling throughout.

Where a full drain-down is required, we carefully move fish into a temporary holding tank using suitable pond water while cleaning work takes place. Temporary fish-handling equipment is designed to support safe transfers and observation during pond work.

We keep fish welfare at the centre of the process. Fish are returned only once the pond has been refilled, conditioned and checked for suitable water conditions.

If we identify signs of serious fish illness or distress, we will advise you to seek specialist aquatic advice before further action is taken.

Once fish are safely held where required, we drain the pond and clean the accessible surfaces thoroughly. This includes the pond walls, floor, waterfall and surrounding areas.

We remove the debris that can collect over time, including:

• Organic sludge
• Leaves and surface debris
• Dead plant material
• Excessive algae where required
• Waste that has settled in accessible areas

Pond cleaning equipment such as sludge vacuums is designed to remove debris including algae, sludge and dead vegetation.

A full clean does not automatically resolve every water-quality or filtration issue. We inspect the system and explain any further work that may be needed.

Built-up waste in the filter bay can restrict flow and make routine maintenance harder. As part of the restoration service, we clean and inspect accessible filtration equipment.

If filter media, a pump, valves or other components need replacing, MS Koi can supply and fit suitable parts where required. Compatibility must be confirmed against your existing filtration system before replacement equipment is fitted.

A full pond clean includes a UV service to inspect the unit and help ensure it is operating as intended.

Our UV service can include:

• Inspection of the UV unit
• UV bulb replacement where required
• Inspection and cleaning of the quartz sleeve
• Inspection of the UV chamber for leaks, damage and wear
• Checking visible cables, plugs and electrical connections
• Testing the UV electrical components
• Operational testing after the service

Always isolate electrical equipment before maintenance. UV-C light can harm eyes and skin. Never look directly at an operating UV-C lamp and follow the product instructions for servicing and replacement.

After cleaning, we refill the pond and prepare the water before fish return. Where required, we use a suitable water conditioner in line with the manufacturer instructions.

Water conditioners are available for use when adding new water to koi and goldfish ponds.

We check the water conditions before fish are reintroduced and make sure the main systems are operating correctly.
